Are There Healthy Ways to Lose Weight?

If you glance at the magazines at the check out stands in the grocery store, you are sure to see a great number of weight loss tips. Most of them are fad diets pills and weight loss supplements which generally do not work. We all know the healthy ways to lose weight involves diet and exercise But the weight loss business is fraught with misleading information and myths. Let us examine some of these myths.

Myth#1: Spot reduction of fat is possible: This cannot possibly be true .You cannot force your body to spot reduce your fat under any circumstances, no matter what type of workouts you do. [If you only do crunches and leg lifts frequently hoping to elliminating stomach fat you will notice that instead of reducing your stomach fat you will diminish the muscle mass that resides below the abdomen. Your focus should not be on crunches and leg lifts alone; you should also follow a healthy diet that would speed up your metabolic rate and help you burn fat fast.

. Myth#2: A drastic reduction of calorie intake reduces your body fat: This myth has pushed many a person to the brink of crash dieting. Folks take to crash dieting in the hope of losing excess weight, not understanding that crash dieting could harm their bodies instead of helping them. As a matter of fact, when you starve or fast, your body believes that you are going to harm it and then it goes into the starvation mode. While in starvation mode, your body slows down your metabolic rate and burns your muscles (instead of fat, which is kept in reserve) for producing energy. So the weight you are losing is not fat; if anything you are losing muscle mass. And once you return to your normal diet, you will gain back not only the weight you lost, but even more pounds.

Myth#3: Doing only cardio exercises will help you lose weight: While it is true that cardio exercises can help you lose fat, it is not true that this is the only type of weight loss exercises available; don't forget the aerobics. In due course, the amount of fat you will burn doing cardio or aerobics is virtually the same. On the other hand, weight lifting is better than both cardio and aerobics, in that it not only helps you burn fat during the workout, but it also also strengthens your bones.

I hope that I have given you some insights on dieting myths and that you will find healthy ways to lose weight.
