What causes panic attacks? Causes (or triggers) can be anything. In your case, you might not even know.
A junction in town, while she drove, triggered my wife's attacks. When she approached that junction, suddenly she was gripped by a panic attack. In mere seconds she was shaking like a leaf and struggling to breath.
